Set along the dunes of Montauk’s iconic coastline, Atlantic Terrace reimagines a hotel as a contemporary beachfront sanctuary. Embracing the spirit of Montauk’s natural landscape, the renovation focuses on a seamless dialogue between architecture, water, and native vegetation, offering a retreat that feels both effortless and deeply rooted in place.
The series of existing structures were re-clad with weathered wood and crisp concrete to elevate and refine their aesthetic. Between them, a network of reflecting pools, lush gardens, and shaded pavilions weaves a serene and cohesive landscape. A carefully restrained material palette—cedar, exposed concrete, plaster, and natural stone—creates a warm, tactile experience that harmonizes with the surrounding dunes and oceanfront views.
Guest rooms and public spaces open onto intimate terraces and gardens, blurring the distinction between indoors and outdoors. A series of boardwalks weave through the site, connecting guest areas to serene pools and a series of waterfront lounges framed by pergolas. Plantings, lighting, and water features animate the site throughout the day and night, enriching the sculptural and sensory experience at every turn.
Throughout, the architecture maintains a quiet elegance, balancing minimalist precision with a deep reverence for the natural context. Atlantic Terrace is conceived not as an intervention, but as a quiet extension of Montauk’s enduring landscape—an invitation to slow down, connect, and experience the timeless beauty of the shoreline.
